Working For Free

Modern Flickers

I love this style of animation! Reminds me of the "flickers" from the earliest days of film. This is one of the artist's, Jeff Scher, earlier shorts. Wonder if he's done commercial work?!? I can't recall seeing an TV spots in this style. Perhaps a future opportunity?

"Jeffrey Scher has been creating animated and live-action films since 1974, and has influenced many younger animators currently working in the medium. His films include Trigger Happy (1996), Prisoners of Inertia (1989), and Reasons to Be Glad (1980); these have been screened on PBS, HBO, and Showtime, released theatrically in Europe and domestically, and presented at festivals internationally. Since 1990, Scher has taught at Columbia University. He is the recipient of awards from the National Endowment for the Arts, and the Jerome Foundation, among others."

A Sitcom Story? Or Manifesto?

This was the opening for the 1970 pilot of The Partridge Family. I really don't remember this version, because it changed when the show got picked up. Interestingly, it tells a really concise story and purpose in a minute. In some ways, it's like the Partridge brand manifesto.

I can't imagine any TV show today having a :60 thematic opening.
